Two years ago, something remarkable began in Albania. For the first time, 300+ young creators, developers, artists, storytellers, and dreamers, came together to imagine, design, and build games in just 48 hours. This was the birth of Game Jam Albania: not just an event, but a movement that sparked a new wave of creativity and innovation among our youth.
The results speak for themselves:
Game Jam Albania 2023 brought together 120+ participants (40% women), guided by 10 regional mentors. Over a single weekend, 10 teams developed 9 new game prototypes, with 3 winning teams awarded for their achievements.
Game Jam Albania 2024 grew even stronger, hosting 150+ participants (35% women), supported by 15 mentors. This time, 15 teams created 13 game prototypes, and the winning team earned the chance to represent Albania at Gamescom 2024, one of the world’s largest gaming conferences.
A game jam is more than a competition. It is a creative marathon, where programmers, artists, designers, and gaming enthusiasts unite around a theme, revealed only at the start of the jam. The participants work for 48 hours non-stop at the same space, where they are offered meals and refreshments, tools and mentoring sessions from many regional and international mentors. At the end, an international jury evaluates the prototypes and awards prizes to the top three teams. For many, it’s their first step into the world of game development.
From its early beginnings, Game Jam Albania has grown into the largest gaming event in the country, inspiring new talents, building friendships, and opening doors to opportunities that once felt out of reach. Now, in its third edition, we are taking a bold step forward: to make Game Jam Albania a community-powered event, built for the community, by the community.
This campaign is about more than just one event. It is about laying the foundation for an emerging creative industry in Albania:
A space where creativity meets technology.
A community where young people can learn, collaborate, and grow together.
A movement that connects Albania with the global gaming and tech world.
